Department Information
The Department of Recreation and Youth Services was established to provide recreation, arts and culture services to children, families, neighborhoods and surrounding communities in the city of Dayton. The department is organized into an Office of the Director and three divisions: Administration, Recreation and Youth Services, and Golf. The Director’s Office is responsible for the department and all of its functions, and has the powers and duties as provided by the Charter, ordinances of the City and all other applicable statutes and laws. This office is subject to the management and control of the City Manager. The Division of Administration is responsible for all fiscal, payroll and personnel, planning, grants and development, research and evaluation, and organizational development and training for the department, as well as all other business and administrative functions. The Division of Recreation and Youth Services manages and operates the City’s community and recreation programs, including youth and adult sports programs, aquatics, special events, cultural, educational and art programs, and youth, teen and senior citizen programs. The division also manages the operation of playgrounds, parks, swimming pools, athletic fields, recreation and community centers, including the Riverbend Arts Center, and other related facilities. The Division of Golf is responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, programming and management of Kittyhawk, Madden and Community Golf Courses. The division is also responsible for all pro shop and restaurant operations.
