The Department of Recreation & Youth Services and University of Dayton will Host the Princeton Review Corp for Test-taking Workshop
The City of Dayton’s Department of Recreation & Youth Services is pleased to announce its upcoming Princeton Review ACT Day, which will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 8:00 a.m. at the Dayton Convention Center located at 22 E. Fifth St. This practice and training event is a timely opportunity for area youth because the actual national ACT test will be held three weeks later on Saturday, October 27th.
A recent Dayton Daily News article (Sunday, August 19th) indicated that the ACT by far is the exam of choice for local students considering college. Of the 59 area districts that had a majority of graduates take the ACT in 2006, most exceeded the state and national average score.
The ACT test assesses school students’ general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work. The ACT is required by more four-year colleges than any other college entrance test.
To ensure that Dayton area youth are adequately prepared to take the ACT and score well, the City’s Department of Recreation and Youth Services has partnered with the Princeton Review Corp, a nationally recognized company based out of New York and Columbus Ohio. These professional tests preparers will provide Dayton area high school students with an opportunity to practice and understand the ACT test as they get ready to apply for college. In addition, the University of Dayton, Office of Admissions is co-sponsoring the event to support seniors wishing to take the test for upcoming college applications.
This event is open to all high school students. Students will receive first-hand experience in taking a practice ACT Test. Lunch will also be provided, and then professionals from the Princeton Review Corporation will empower students with test-taking strategies to help them for future actual tests.
Pre-registration is required due to limited seating. Students may register at the Northwest Community Center, 1600 Princeton Dr, or at the Department’s Administrative Office inside of City Hall at 101 W. Third St. Mezzanine level. The cost is $15 (which includes lunch). The registration deadline is Wednesday, October 3, 2007. All high school students are encouraged to attend!!!
